Case Studies
IFA operates in the space where strategy meets impact. We partner with organisations that are improving global health, easing trade, fighting for gender equity, and African development to deliver communications that move people to act.

Our work spans advocacy campaigns, platform launches, media strategy, and capacity building, always rooted in one conviction: that African voices, expertise, and solutions deserve to be at the centre of the world's most important conversations. Here's a look at what we've been building.
SHAPING THE FEMINIST FUNDING ECOSYSTEM
– FROM THE GLOBAL SOUTH
Client: Leading from the South
Leading from the South (LFS), a consortium advancing women’s rights movements and feminist philanthropy across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, marked its 10-year milestone with a renewed strategic direction to reinforce its role in shaping Global South leadership and funding ecosystems. The challenge was to translate this vision into a cohesive communications approach that could unify diverse partners, strengthen visibility, and position LFS as a leading voice in global feminist discourse. IFA partnered with LFS to develop and activate a communications strategy that enhances consortium-wide alignment, improved ways of working, and integrated monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) insights into storytelling and planning. By amplifying partner strengths and creating a more cohesive narrative, the work strengthened engagement across the alliance and elevated its collective identity. Early results include a thought leadership op-ed published on Project Syndicate, positioning LFS within global policy and feminist conversations, and reinforcing its influence as a key actor shaping the future of feminist movements.
LAUNCHING AFRICA’S SPORTS FOR SOCIAL IMPACT PLATFORM AT AFCON 2025
Client: Speak Up Africa
On the eve of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Final, Speak Up Africa convened football leaders, policymakers, global health partners, athletes, youth, media, and civil society in Rabat for the launch of Speak Up Africa in Action, its new flagship sport-for-health platform designed to accelerate polio eradication and malaria elimination across the continent. From concept to kick-off, we supported venue selection and logistics coordination and provided on-site operational support to ensure seamless execution on the eve of the Final. We supported event communications from strategy to influencer toolkits and media relations on-site.
CONNECTING AFRICAN HEALTH RESEARCH EXPERTS
TO POLICY AND FINANCING DISCUSSIONS
Client: Speak Up Africa
African scientists and health experts account for just 1.2% of global health R&D coverage in traditional media and 4.9% on social media, limiting the visibility of African research priorities in global policy and funding decisions. To address this, Speak Up Africa launched Phase II of the African Voices of Science (AVoS) initiative, convening 20 health R&D champions across Kenya, South Africa, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire. IFA has developed and implemented the communications strategy to amplify the reach and impact of African Voices of Science's expertise and leadership. Resulting in securing advocacy and speaking opportunities on the sidelines of the WHO Afro Regional Committee Meeting and the G20 in South Africa. As well as securing media coverage in leading international and regional outlets such as TV 5 Monde, BBC Africa, Deutsche Welle, Sci Dev and All Africa and delivering tailored media and personal branding training.
AFCTA TRAINING MATERIALS FOR SMALL, MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES IN THE ECOWAS REGION
We supported UNDP Africa with drafting and designing a practical capacity-building guide and designing a practical capacity-building guide for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in the ECOWAS Region. The guide was created to help small business owners, traders, and producers, especially women, understand how the AfCFTA works, which shaped the plain-language, jargon-light tone throughout. The guide draws on a synthesis of existing institutional knowledge and data from a wide network of partners including, the AfCFTA Secretariat, African Union Commission, Afrexim Bank, the EU, International Trade Centre (ITC), GIZ, UNCTAD, and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). Trade statistics, policy frameworks, and SME data were sourced and woven into accessible explanations.
EQUIPPING AFRICAN BUSINESSES TO BREAK DOWN
TRADE BARRIERS
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is set to create the world's largest free trade area. Accelerating intra-African trade and boosting Africa’s trading position in global markets by removing trade barriers that currently make trading across Africa costly, time-consuming and complex. To help eliminate the most prevalent trade barriers across Africa, the United Nations Centre for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) created an online tool for traders to report the trade barriers they encounter, and, under the AfCFTA agreement, governments have committed to responding to and eliminating these barriers. IFA supported the UNCTAD in designing and delivering a multi-channel awareness-raising and informing campaign targeting Medium, Small, and Micro-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the continent. The strategy combined a digital campaign (WhatsApp and social media), webinars, media interviews with government officials, and on-the-ground publicity at major border crossings to significantly increase traffic to the online reporting tool.
